The British recycling group Biffa has acquired all shares of domestic PET processor Esterform. Biffa recently announced this in a press release, without elaborating on the details and financial volume of the transaction. The recycling group had already acquired a first stake in Esterform two years ago. Esterform processes PET and rPET into preforms for the production of bottles and containers for beverages, food, as well as cleaning and personal care products. The company also produces containers from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Esterform has its headquarters in Tenbury Wells near Birmingham and has further production sites in Leeds. According to the current release, Biffa will merge its existing PET recycling assets with Esterform to form a new business division, which will market its products under the Esterpet brand. Esterform founder Mark Tyne is to take over the management of this new business division within the Biffa Group. Biffa CEO Michael Topham explained that after a successful initial investment in Esterform in 2023, the company has now completed the acquisition to strengthen its capabilities for a closed production and recycling loop for PET packaging. He added that combining Biffa's PET recycling facilities with Esterform's processing expertise and capabilities creates a sophisticated provider of end-to-end solutions for circular PET packaging in preparation for the planned introduction of a deposit return scheme in the UK in 2027. Esterform founder Tyne stated that this marks an exciting new chapter for Esterform. He continued that becoming a wholly owned part of the Biffa Group allows them to accelerate their vision of delivering high-quality, circular PET packaging solutions for the UK market. Tyne concluded that thanks to Biffa's continuous investment and support, they are well-positioned to meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging ahead of the deposit return scheme, while maintaining the expertise and agility that their customers value. The listed Biffa Group is headquartered in High Wycombe, west of London, and is one of the leading recycling and waste management companies in the UK. The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange until its takeover by private equity investor Energy Capital Partners at the beginning of 2023. More information: www.biffa.co.uk, esterform.com |
