In plastics processing economic considerations have resulted in the use of industry-quality granulate (regenerated material, ground material) which frequently shows a slight contamination with foreign objects such as e.g. metal particles. Depending on the production system this may soon cause unwanted machine downtimes. Especially for the plastics industry S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH (www.se-so-tec.com) now offers a system combination that combines the advantages of magnet separators and inductive metal separators. This combination is the optimal solution for the separation of both magnetic and non-magnetic metal contaminations. The combination of SAFEMAG and PROTECTOR prevents mould damage, reduces reject rates, and thus increases machine running times. The loss of good material also is reduced to a minimum. In the first stage the SAFEMAG with the extremely high forces of its neodymium magnet material even removes iron powder and slightly magnetized stainless steel particles from the product flow. It thus reduces the response frequency of the PROTECTOR and consequently also the loss of good material. Downstream of the SAFEMAG, the PROTECTOR reliably detects all the remaining non-magnetic metals.
