The privately owned Viennese company with factory premises located in Weissenbach, Lower Austria, has been in the machinery business since 1835. As world market leader in machinery and complete plants for production of woven plastic sacks, with an export rate of over 99%, Starlinger & Co. Ges.m.b.H. (www.starlinger.com) stands as synonym for leadership in quality and technology in over 130 countries. The success of fiscal 2006-2007, which saw a 14% increase in turnover, marked another milestone year in the company’s history. More than 40 years of export experience and a worldwide network of loyal customers have earned Starlinger the status of “global player” in past decades. With 480 employees, Starlinger has continued to expand the portfolio and strengthen its leadership role, also in the fields of extrusion technology for technical yarns (e.g. artificial grass yarn) and plastics recycling technology (especially for PET, photo). Security of investment, quality, a broad base of competence and long-term reliability are the pillars of success for an industrial company on the international market. “But nowadays there’s more to quality and technological leadership than top-notch machinery,” says Angelika Huemer, managing partner at Starlinger. “Getting the most in terms of strength and loading capacity from a minimum amount of raw material is the essential art of industrial sack production. We always keep the entire production process in mind, so that with well thought-out technology at every step, we can optimise the key factor for our customers: the price per sack for the quality specified.” “Close partnership with our customers and the ongoing dialogue with them has always been one of the strongest motors for innovation at Starlinger,” says Ms. Huemer. “We look at it this way: Our new developments must always open up for our customers – and their customers -- new long-term opportunities and business fields that give them an edge over the competition.” This is true in the field of sack packaging, where new closure types are now being developed and high-quality printing is opening the consumer goods market to this type of sack, as well as in fibre production (e.g. artificial grass yarn) and in plastics recycling. This strategy has led Starlinger on a course of steady, if inconspicuous, expansion over a period of years, to become the parent company of an international corporate group. Today, Starlinger Group includes the subsidiaries SML Maschinengesellschaft m.b.H. (extrusion technology, Lenzing/Austria), SAHM (precision winding machinery, Eschwege/Germany) and MAPLAN (rubber injection moulding machinery, Ternitz/Austria). The group employs nearly 1000 persons worldwide. Starlinger’s own branch offices in Chicago und Greenville (USA), New Delhi (India), Moscow (Russia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Taicang (China) and soon in South America demonstrate Starlinger’s emphasis on close contact with customers.
