The granulator manufacturer Zerma has optimised its tried-and-tested GST series of granulators by means of a comprehensive re-engineering process. During this process, it placed particular emphasis on size, weight, handling and energy efficiency. The compact granulators that make up the GST series are normally used for the size reduction of blow-moulding waste. Examples include large items such as bottles and canisters, but also tops and tails. The floor space required for the re-engineered machines now ranges from just 1.100 mm x 950 mm to 1.500 mm x 950 mm, which results in a very compact footprint. Re-engineering the previous machine housing has reduced its weight and therefore optimised the handling of the entire machine. Depending on their size, the machines now weigh just 600, 700 and 1000 kilograms respectively. A new, optional intelligent energy-saving function is now available to boost efficiency. This function can start and stop the system automatically based on the status of upstream machines, thus reducing energy consumption during idle times. The low infeed height – the hopper opening starts 1420 mm above floor level – enables easy manual filling via the hopper. Material can also be fed in via a small conveyor. In conjunction with the open rotor design, the tightly curved back wall of the cutting chamber ensures reliable material infeed and minimises the risk of bridging. The ground material produced can be reintroduced into the production process directly – using a vacuum hopper loader, for instance. A blower integrated into the side of the machine frame helps discharge the material and means the system can be installed in a space-saving configuration. Opening the blower is simple, making it quick and easy to clean during material or colour changes. Swing-away screen basket for rapid cleaning and maintenance Wide-opening front doors ensure excellent access to the inside of the machines, while gas springs help make it easy to open the hopper by hand. The swing-away screen basket ensures the sieve can be removed easily and provides convenient access to the grinding chamber for cleaning and maintenance. The granulators are available with a rotor diameter of 250 mm, and in widths of 300, 450 and 600 mm. As with all Zerma granulators, the rotor and stator knives can be adjusted from outside the machine, which has the advantage of reducing maintenance downtime. What’s more, a rotor lock can prevent the rotor from twisting. A drive capacity of 7.5 kW or 11 kW is possible. The granulators are fully soundproofed to ensure extremely quiet operation, making them ideal for inline size reduction. They have a rotor speed of 500 rpm. Controls and electrical cabinet The integrated controls and the operator console comply with all applicable safety regulations and can also be tailored to specific requirements. In addition, peripheral devices such as feed conveyors, metal detectors and unloading systems can be integrated into the machine’s control system.
