“Human Touch” is the motto of the fourth International Smart Plastics Specialist Congress to be held on September 15th and 16th 2015 in Linz.
Smart plastics combine the three key competences formed by electronics, plastics technology and design to create one of the most significant means of design of our age. Accordingly, this congress will show and discuss the enormous potential embodied by these “intelligent plastics” and the developments that the specialist world is working on at present, or has already realized. For as the programme chair, Professor Georg Steinbichler from the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz states: “These technologies have arrived in the everyday sphere and are now truly close at hand, which is a fact that we wish to underline with the motto “Human Touch”.

A bridgehead to the human senses
The human skin is a haptic interface with a variety of functions. In his everyday activities, keynote speaker Dr. Herbert Haller, a senior physician and accident surgeon at the Linz Accident Hospital, provides burn victims with fresh quality of life. His long-term experience with people and the sensory organ “skin” should create a better sense of awareness among technical specialists of just how versatile the skin interface actually is.

Presentations from international experts
In addition, the programme will also include contributions from national and international experts such as Prof. Frank Ehrig, the head of the IWK Institute in Rapperswil / Switzerland, Prof. Bernhard G. Zagar from the JKU in Linz, Dr. Paul Hartmann from Joanneum Research in Graz and Prof. Dr. Per Magnus Kristiansen from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.
