Inhalt/Thematik
Rotomoulders are some of the most versatile plastics processors in the marketplace today. This is a low cost method of manufacturing hollow articles in short runs – hence it is used by the Italian designer furniture industry to produce chairs that are works of art. There is a top selling coupe car on the market made by rotomoulding – from Little Tikes in Ohio, USA. Larger toys and playground equipment are commonly rotomoulded. More serious applications of rotational moulding include automotive water and fuel tanks. Researchers such as those in Minho, Portugal, have been investigating the rotomoulding of engineering and high performance plastics for low permeability tanks.

In arid areas, such as Australia, South America, Africa and the Middle East, water tank production forms a major part of the industry, along with septic tanks for waste in more remote areas. Household fuel tanks are also being rotomoulded, along with large rubbish bins. Plastic rubbish chutes on construction sites are another item.

Watersports are increasingly benefitting from rotomoulded products such as kayaks and boats, buoys and floating docks. The range of food containers includes fish boxes with insulation, buckets and drums.

Another common application of this plastics process is in the manufacture of road furniture including temporary barriers around road works.

Applied Market Information is hosting a forum for the worldwide rotational moulding industry to be held 2-4 November 2009 at the Fira Palace Hotel in Barcelona, Spain. The aim is to discuss markets and trends, design and production technology.
