About this symposium
Polyurethanes (PU) are one of the most versatile material class in the plastic processing. Due to the high adjustability of the reactive systems regarding the resulting properties and the processing behaviour, the application field for PU has been expanded to nearly every industrial sector. Either as compact elastomer for damping solution, as flexible foam for cushioning or as coating to functionalize the surface of components and others, PU show a lot of advantages, which no other material class can obtain. Still, there are many development tasks to enable a sustainable, more cost-efficient and eco-friendly production of PU applications. This demand is fuelled by the increase of environmental governmental regulations restricting e.g. the allowed chemicals or emissions.
The central question answered during the symposium is: How can a sustainable, costefficient and eco-friendly production of PU applications in the different branches be enabled? In this context, current research developments regarding the materials, processing technologies, mould design, applications, recycling and also the latest regulations for processing and applying PU are addressed within the symposium. Furthermore, an outlook to the influence of the REACH-regulation on the production environment for PU-parts is given. Therefore, material suppliers, processors and equipment suppliers along the whole value chain of PU-components discuss the presented solutions with technical experts from research institutes, industrial companies and associations.
