The aim of the conference is therefore to provide a platform for different viewpoints and facilitate a constructive and focused discussion on practical steps that could be taken to address issues such as:
• Lack of consensus on the definition of “robust” science
• Interpretation of the precautionary principle
• Lack of common understanding on the role of science in decision making
• Risk communication on the part of public authorities and the scientific community
• Perceptions of risk among the general public
• Different approaches to risk regulation between the EU and other jurisdictions, as well as among EU Member States
• Specific concerns relating to plastics
