Clariant (www.clariant.com) today announced the sale of its Japanese emulsions manufacturer Clariant Polymers K.K. to The Nippon Synthetic Chemical Industry Co. Ltd for a total transaction value of 2.4 billion Yen (approx. 27 million CHF). The transaction marks a further step in Clariant’s strategy to sell businesses that are outside its core activities.

Clariant Polymers K.K. is a manufacturer and distributor of liquid and powder emulsions that are used in numerous applications primarily in the construction industry. In the year 2003 the company with a manufacturing plant in Ogaki and R&D laboratories in Shizuoka generated sales of approx. 5 billion Yen (around 56 million CHF). All 110 employees will be transferred to the purchasing company. Already in December 2002 Clariant had sold large parts of its emulsions business to the Celanese Group.
