Ticona, the engineering polymers business of Celanese Corporation announced today at the Chinaplas 2005 in Guangzhou, China, that it will strategically invest in a new 20,000 ton facility in the Asia/Pacific region. The new world-scale plant will increase global GUR® ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) capacity to 90,000 t/yr. The facility will be operational in the second half of 2007. The site selection process in the Asia/Pacific region is in an advanced stage. Preliminary engineering work is complete, and plans for final engineering and construction are underway. Ticona, the world’s leading producer of UHMW-PE, also operates state-of-the art GUR® UHMW-PE facilities in Bishop, Texas and Oberhausen, Germany. “The Asian investment will meet growing demand for GUR® UHMW-PE and further extend our global manufacturing capabilities for an expanded product range. It also demonstrates our long-term commitment to this important growth region for Ticona,” stated David Postolowski, Global GUR® Business Director. Ticona produces and sells UHMW-PE under the GUR® brand. GUR® UHMW-PE has an extremely low coefficient of friction and provides outstanding abrasion resistance and toughness. GUR® is a registered trademark of Ticona. |
