J&A Plastics: New nanocomposites for packaging

What good is a top-quality product if it does not reach the end-consumer at the promised quality standard? For this reason, modern packaging must not only protect against damage and soiling, but also secure against loss of vitamins, aromas, moisture, micro-organisms, etc. Furthermore, it must be easy to handle and be recycling-compatible, be disposable in an environmentally-friendly manner and be printable in an optimal fashion. Plastic films on the basis of nano-compounds manage this delicate balancing act.

Nycoa Nanotuff is the new high-tech material that the Krefeld-based compounder, J&A Plastics (www.j-a.de) – as the exclusive distribution partner of Nycoa (Nylon COrperation of America) – now supplies in Germany, the Benelux countries and Poland. The nano-composite has excellent barrier properties, which protect the packaged goods against external and internal packaging penetration and hence prevent damage to the goods caused by loosening. Various test series using oxygen, helium, fuels and steam confirm the considerably longer path a permeate needs for penetration. Furthermore, the material fulfils – through excellent impact resistance, high rigidity and tenacity, even in the case of reduced film thicknesses – all the design requirements of modern packaging. The compound is fast and easy to process and can be recycled.

Advert

The normally higher raw material costs are offset by the greater customer satisfaction. Nycoa Nanotuff is particularly suitable for product packaging where quality loss caused by storage, odour infiltration and taste alteration, etc., is detrimental to customer acceptance.
