Lego: Toy manufacturer further expands Monterrey site

The Danish toy manufacturer Lego is further expanding its production site in Monterrey, Mexico.

According to a press release, additional storage space and new packaging capacities are to be created in Monterrey. Overall, the site will grow by a further 59,000 square metres to a total of 334,000 square metres. The completion of the corresponding construction work is planned for 2025. The planned investments are estimated in the press release to total USD 205 million. Up to 900 new jobs are also to be created as part of the site expansion.

Carsten Rasmussen, COO of the Lego Group: "The plant in Monterrey is Lego's largest production facility worldwide and plays an important role in our global network. Our continued investment is part of the company's strategy to locate production facilities close to our key markets. This enables us to respond to changes in local demand, shorten the supply chain and reduce our environmental impact."

Lego only completed an expansion of the production and logistics capacities of the plant in Monterrey last summer. USD 500 million was invested in the construction and equipment of a fully automated high-bay warehouse, a new hall for injection moulding systems and another production building.

Lego currently has a total of 51 production lines for Lego system bricks and Duplo sub-brand bricks in Monterrey and employs more than 5,000 people.
