Specialty chemical company LANXESS (www.lanxess.com) is increasing its prices worldwide for hexane diol (HDO) and trimethylol propane with immediate effect. In Europe, the price per metric ton is to increase by EUR 60 and elsewhere by USD 200. These increases are being caused by significant rises in production and transport costs and by partial adjustments to shifts in the exchange rate between the euro and the U.S. dollar. The price per metric ton of TMP will increase by EUR 250 and elsewhere by USD 400 owing to the drastic rise in manufacturing costs. The primary factors behind this price increase are higher raw material and energy expenses, but rising logistics costs have also played a role. HDO is used, for example, in the manufacture of high-grade coating resins, fibers, high-temperature-resistant polymers and adhesives. The important basic chemical TMP is used in the chemical industry to produce coatings, plastics, polyurethanes and pigments among other products and for the manufacture of lubricants and fluids. |
