The US chemical company DuPont is selling its aramid fibre business to Arclin, a company belonging to the investment group The Jordan Company (TJC). According to a press release, DuPont signed an agreement to this effect at the end of August. The financial volume of the transaction will total approximately USD 1.8 billion. DuPont will receive a purchase price of approximately USD 1.2 billion, bonds worth a further USD 300 million and approximately 17.5 per cent of the shares in Arclin, which are valued at around USD 325 million. The deal is still subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year. DuPont's aramid fibre division develops and manufactures high-performance synthetic fibres, which are marketed under the ‘Kevlar’ and ‘Nomex’ brands, among others. The division employs a total of around 1,900 people at five production sites and generated sales of approximately USD 1.3 billion in the 2024 financial year. DuPont CEO Lori Koch said in the latest press release: "Today's announcement is another important step in the ongoing optimisation of the new DuPont portfolio. The transaction strengthens the strategic focus of our portfolio while improving the growth and margin profile. It is structured to maximise value for our shareholders by generating significant cash upon closing, which will be used to further create value, while allowing DuPont shareholders to participate in Arclin's growth potential through our remaining stake. We are pleased to be working with TJC again, as the company has a proven track record of successfully creating value through an operationally focused approach." As part of its portfolio optimisation, DuPont sold a majority stake in its Delrin brand POM homopolymer business to the TJC investment group two years ago (see also plasticker news from 25 August 2023). DuPont, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, reported a net loss of USD 512 million on sales of USD 6.323 billion for the first six months of the 2025 financial year. The Wilmington, Delaware-based group expects sales of approximately USD 12.85 billion for the full financial year. More information: www.dupont.com, www.arclin.com, tjclp.com |
