Rob Ingram will continue the association’s work at a time marked by high transformation requirements and increasing competitive pressure on the European plastics industry. A key focus of his presidency will be the implementation of the so-called “Plastics Transition”, Plastics Europe’s transformation roadmap. This roadmap aims to make around 65 percent of plastics used in Europe circular and climate-neutral by 2050. Published in November 2023, the roadmap marked the first time a joint, industry-wide approach to reshaping the European plastics system was agreed upon. Virginia Janssens, Managing Director of Plastics Europe, paid tribute to the long-standing commitment of Benny Mermans, who had played a defining role in the association’s work for more than three decades. At the same time, she emphasized her confidence in Rob Ingram’s leadership. Ingram previously chaired the Transition Roadmap Committee and was instrumental in translating the industry’s strategic objectives, together with a wide range of stakeholders, into a realistic implementation framework. Rob Ingram himself described his appointment as taking on responsibility at a decisive moment. Since the adoption of the transformation strategy, the economic and political environment has changed significantly, particularly with regard to the international competitiveness of the European plastics industry. However, the association remains committed to its fundamental goals. Key to success, he said, will be coordinated action across the entire value chain as well as supportive industrial policy frameworks. Ingram announced close cooperation with policymakers, industry partners and other stakeholders. Rob Ingram has more than 30 years of experience in the chemical and plastics industry. He has held numerous senior commercial and operational positions in international corporate structures and has been CEO of Ineos Olefins & Polymers Europe since 2018. In addition, at its General Assembly on 17 December 2025, Plastics Europe elected three new Vice Presidents: Stephanie Kalil, Commercial Vice President Packaging & Specialty Plastics at Dow; Craig Arnold, Executive Vice President Polyolefins, Base Chemicals (HC&E) & Circular Economy Solutions at Borealis; and Lauren Kjelsen, member of the Executive Board and Chief Operating Officer Custom Solutions at Evonik.
