Albis: New Joint Venture for Engineering Plastics in India

Albis continues to expand its international activities and, together with the Mumbai-based Sukhesh Group, has established a joint venture in India. The newly founded company operates under the name Albis Sukhesh India Pvt. Ltd. and is headquartered in Mumbai. The aim is to position the company as a distributor of engineering plastics in the Indian market.

Albis contributes its portfolio of engineering plastics, its technical sales expertise, and established relationships with international manufacturers. The Sukhesh Group complements this with its long-standing market presence in India, a nationwide sales and logistics network, and more than 30 years of experience in plastics distribution.

The Sukhesh Group is a family-owned company and, with nine warehouse locations and over 1,000 customers, has so far primarily served the standard polymers market in India. Through the joint venture, it is strategically expanding its offering to include engineering plastics and strengthening its role as a distribution partner.

Veeralakshmanan Bagavathi has been appointed Managing Director of the new company. He has international leadership experience in the plastics industry and has held various management positions in Asia, including in Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong. In his new role, he is responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the joint venture. The focus is on building a strong market position in the engineering plastics segment and achieving sustainable growth in India.

The Indian market is considered dynamic due to continued economic growth, increasing industrialization, and its growing importance as a manufacturing hub. Demand for engineering plastics is expected to rise in the coming years, particularly in applications such as mobility, electrical and electronics, and construction.

Albis is an internationally active distributor of engineering thermoplastics, thermoplastic elastomers, and standard polymers. Headquartered in Hamburg, the company employs around 500 people at 26 locations worldwide and is particularly strong in Europe, with a growing presence in the EMEA region and Asia-Pacific.

Founded in 1953, the Sukhesh Group has remained a family-owned business to this day. It has decades of experience in the Indian plastics market and has been active across multiple generations.
