As of January 1, 2026, Ben Mechelmans has assumed the position of Managing Director of Arburg N.V. in Belgium. With this appointment, the Belgian subsidiary has its own Managing Director for the first time. Mechelmans succeeds Gerrit Hazeleger, who had been heading the Belgian branch since 2019 in addition to his role as Managing Director of Arburg BV in the Netherlands. In the future, Hazeleger will again focus exclusively on the Dutch location.

The 25-year-old Mechelmans has been working for Arburg Belgium since July 2023. He initially worked in internal sales before taking on responsibilities in field sales from May 2024 onward. In this role, he was involved in supporting and developing customer relationships and gained extensive market and sales experience. His previous work within the company laid the foundation for his appointment as Managing Director.

Mechelmans holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from KU Leuven. In addition to his technical education, he brings experience in marketing and digital communication. To prepare for his new role, he completed a multi-week onboarding program at the company headquarters in Lossburg, Baden-Württemberg, as well as additional sales training.

Arburg Belgium currently employs seven people. The branch serves the Belgian market for injection molding technology and related automation and digitalization solutions. The current market situation in Belgium is characterized by economic and political uncertainties, which are affecting investment decisions across many industrial companies. Against this backdrop, efficiency improvements, process reliability, and flexible production concepts are becoming increasingly important for users.

In Belgium, market development is currently focused in particular on applications in the medical technology and packaging sectors. In addition to traditional injection molding machines, the portfolio increasingly includes automated turnkey systems as well as digital solutions and service offerings. The aim of the new management is to further expand Arburg’s existing market position in Belgium and align its offerings along the entire value chain.
