Highsun Akro officially began operations at its new plant in the Changle District of Fuzhou on June 23, 2026. The inauguration ceremony was attended by, among others, Chen Jianlong, Chairman of Highsun Holding Group; Chen Zhong, President of Highsun Holding Group; Roelof Westerbeek, Vice President; Dr. Oliver Neuß, Managing Director of Akro-Plastic GmbH; and Yang Xuebin, General Manager of Highsun Akro. The project management team and employees of the new site were also represented. The plant in Fuzhou is designed for the production of modified engineering plastics and has an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes. It uses Akro-Plastic’s “ICX” technology, a proprietary compounding and extrusion technology, as well as the formulation systems of the German plastics specialist. The product range includes, in particular, “AkroMID” materials based on PA 6, PA 6.6 and PPA, as well as blends from the “AkroLoy” series, including PA 6.6/PPA compounds. The site therefore covers a broad portfolio of engineering plastics for industrial applications. According to General Manager Yang Xuebin, the Fuzhou site is to focus on three strategic priorities. These include innovation-driven growth, the development of local research and development capabilities, and integration into the industrial environment of the Highsun Group. Plans include a local R&D laboratory to support applications in sectors such as automotive, electronics, and the sanitary and kitchen industries. In addition, energy-efficient production facilities and sustainable manufacturing processes are intended to help reduce the carbon footprint of production. Dr. Oliver Neuß, Managing Director of Akro-Plastic GmbH, described the new site as a complement to the existing production network. While Changzhou is expected to focus more strongly on highly specialized compounds in the future, Fuzhou is intended primarily to cover large-scale production and cost efficiency. This differentiation is designed to enable more targeted service for different market requirements within China. Roelof Westerbeek, Vice President of Highsun Holding Group, described the completion of the plant as a further step in the cooperation between HSCC and Akro-Plastic. The site is part of HSCC’s strategic focus on expanding its specialties and engineering plastics business. According to the company, the plant combines Highsun’s raw materials and industrial platform with Akro-Plastic’s compounding technology and features a high degree of automation. With the commissioning of the Fuzhou plant, Highsun Akro now has a production network with two sites in China: Changzhou and Fuzhou. This network is intended to enable differentiated supply to customers in eastern and southern China while improving delivery times and supply security. Highsun Akro was established as a joint venture in 2022. Fujian Highsun Engineering Plastics Co., Ltd. holds 60 percent of the shares, while Germany’s Akro-Plastic GmbH holds 40 percent. Akro-Plastic is part of the Feddersen Group. As part of the joint venture, Akro-Plastic has granted the company an exclusive license to manufacture and market its products based on the proprietary “ICX” technology in Greater China. This region comprises mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Outside this territory, Akro-Plastic retains all exclusive rights to brands, formulations and technologies and operates independently. The raw material qualifications, material formulations and quality assurance processes of the Chinese plants are intended to comply with Akro-Plastic’s global standards. The aim is to ensure consistent product quality across the various production sites. The partnership combines Highsun’s position as a backward-integrated supplier in the field of polyamide 6 with Akro-Plastic’s compounding expertise and international customer approvals.
