MCAM: Investment at Pennsylvania Site

Plastics company Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials (MCMA) is planning to expand its manufacturing facility in Reading, Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) announced the project in a press release issued this week. According to the agency, the company, which is part of Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG), intends to invest a total of USD 20.3 million. The project includes both the modernization of existing facilities and the construction of new production capacity. As a result, 42 new jobs are expected to be created.

MCMA manufactures engineering thermoplastics and a range of composite materials in Reading, where it currently employs 441 people at the site, located northwest of Philadelphia. In addition, the MCG subsidiary operates further facilities in the U.S. states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Virginia, California, and Arizona.

For the fiscal year 2025/2026, which ended on March 31, Mitsubishi Chemical Group reported a 6.2% year-on-year decline in revenue to JPY 3.704 trillion (EUR 20.022 billion). Operating profit fell sharply by 78.8% to JPY 30 billion (EUR 162 million), while net profit declined by 25.8% to JPY 78 billion (EUR 422 million).
