Maag Group to Acquire US Extrusion Specialist Cloeren

The Maag Group has signed a definitive agreement to acquire US-based Cloeren Incorporated. Through the acquisition, the provider of system solutions for the polymer, chemical and plastics industries is expanding its portfolio to include flat-die and coextrusion technologies. Subject to customary closing conditions, the transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter. Financial details were not disclosed.

Headquartered in Orange, Texas, Cloeren develops and manufactures customized flat dies, coextrusion feedblocks and related components for polymer and plastics processing. In addition to its headquarters, the company operates manufacturing facilities in Marshall, Texas; Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and Micheldorf, Austria.

Its products are used, among other applications, in the production of mono- and multilayer films, sheets and coatings. Cloeren has specialized in flat-die extrusion since 1975 and, according to the company, developed the first patented coextrusion feedblock. Its solutions cover applications ranging from conventional single-layer processes to complex multilayer structures.

The acquisition will complement Maag’s existing polymer-processing activities with process-critical components for extrusion lines. Cloeren’s technologies are to be integrated with the Maag Group’s existing pumping, filtration, pelletizing, size-reduction, recycling, measurement and control systems. The aim is to cover a larger part of the process chain and provide more highly integrated solutions for plastics and polymer applications.

According to Maag, the transaction will strengthen the company’s technical and engineering capabilities, particularly in the field of extrusion applications. Within the group, Cloeren will contribute its expertise in the design of flat dies, feedblocks and customized coextrusion systems.

Cloeren’s existing business operations are expected to continue unchanged following completion of the acquisition. Its products, services and current contacts will remain in place. At the same time, the company will gain access to the Maag Group’s international resources, development structures, and sales and service networks.
