PureCycle increases recycled PP production and sales

PureCycle Technologies increased production and commercial activity for its PureFive recycled polypropylene (PP) in the second quarter of 2026. The company also brought an in-house compounding operation online and reported further customer approvals. Despite higher revenue, however, PureCycle remained heavily loss-making.

At its Ironton facility in Ohio, PureCycle produced around 4.5 million lb, or approximately 2,040 tonnes, of recycled PP during the quarter. According to the company, output was around 32% higher than in the same period a year earlier. A scheduled shutdown was used to carry out more than 170 measures aimed at improving plant reliability, availability and process stability.

PureCycle has also been operating its own compounding line at Ironton since April. Around 907 tonnes of material were processed during the second quarter, including approximately 28 trial batches. The company plans to move to continuous 24/7 operation in the fourth quarter. The additional compounding capability is intended to allow PureFive grades to be tailored more closely to customers’ technical specifications.

During the reporting period, PureCycle announced seven new customer approvals or material conversions. Initial commercial deliveries were made to Procter & Gamble, with PureFive already being used in selected closures for Downy products. Further applications for Tide and Vicks are expected to follow. The company is also working with partners in closures, films, food packaging and automotive applications.

PureFive has also been recognised by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection as post-consumer recycled material. As a result, the material can be counted towards statutory recycled-content requirements. PureCycle sees rising minimum recycled-content mandates in several US states as a potential additional driver of demand.

Alongside the ramp-up of its US operations, the company is pursuing further international expansion. A new recycling facility is planned in Thailand, with start-up targeted for 2028. The project is expected to require investment of around USD 250 million. PureCycle is also progressing plans for a facility in Antwerp, Belgium, where it expects to obtain the required permits in the first half of 2027.

Revenue reached USD 4.5 million in the second quarter. At the same time, the company recorded a net loss of USD 142.2 million. Operating loss narrowed to USD 41.3 million, while adjusted EBITDA stood at negative USD 31.7 million.

For the second half of the year, PureCycle expects sales volumes to rise further. Progress will depend in particular on a stable production ramp-up, additional customer approvals and the conversion of further applications into commercial-scale production.
