Wacker Launches Coolant-Resistant LSR for EV Sealing Applications
  At Fakuma 2026, the Wacker Group will present “Elastosil LR 3822,” an oil-bleeding liquid silicone rubber featuring high resilience and tear resistance. The product was specially developed for the manufacture of coolant-resistant sealing elements in connectors (shown in red) used in the traction batteries of electric vehicles – (Photo: Wacker). After curing, the elastomer continuously releases silicone oil at the surface, forming a lubricating film designed to support automated assembly of molded parts. According to Wacker, the material also offers high tear strength and elongation, with the cured elastomer capable of stretching by up to 270% without damage. It remains flexible at temperatures down to -45°C. Advert The new grade is also designed to withstand prolonged exposure to battery coolants. Wacker says “Elastosil LR 3822” retains its mechanical properties after 1,000 hours in a glycol-water mixture at 125°C. Under these conditions, the material achieves a compression set of 44%, supporting long-term sealing performance.
With a hardness of 60 Shore A, “Elastosil LR 3822” is suited to commonly used sealing specifications. Potential applications include connector seals and other components in the cooling circuits of traction batteries.
