Servomold will unveil a new servo-electric linear unscrewing unit (SLU) for demolding helical internal contours at Fakuma 2026. The system combines the rotary movement of a threaded core with a simultaneous axial stroke, with both movements electronically synchronized. Typical applications include plastic components for autoinjectors, pens and similar drug-delivery systems. The SLU is available in two sizes, designed for minimum core center distances of 40 mm and 60 mm. Each unit can drive up to eight threaded cores. Using four units, mold concepts with up to 32 cavities can therefore be implemented. Standardized core holders with interchangeable contour inserts are designed to simplify changeovers between different geometries and thread pitches. The integrated linear guide also guides the slide body and can be used to demold non-rotating contours. A mechanical locking mechanism secures the axial position of the threaded core when the mold is closed. According to Servomold, the system maintains positioning accuracy in the micrometer range even under high injection pressures. Temperature control for both the slide and the core is integrated and designed to support short cycle times. Unlike conventional unscrewing systems, in which a lead-screw nut mechanically couples rotary motion with the axial stroke, the SLU separates the two axes. One servo drive provides the rotational movement, while a second handles the linear stroke. Servomold’s “MoldControl” synchronizes the two axes electronically, with the ratio between rotation and axial travel set according to the required thread pitch. Because the two movements are controlled independently, rotation and linear travel can also be used separately. Once a thread has been unscrewed, for example, a longer sleeve section can continue to be demolded by means of a purely linear stroke. This eliminates the need for both the lead-screw nut and the corresponding lead screw, reducing mechanical adjustment and lubrication requirements. As the system is fully servo-electric, no hydraulic oil is required for the drive. This is particularly relevant for applications requiring clean production environments or cleanroom compatibility. Live demonstration at Fakuma 2026 Servomold will demonstrate the SLU at Fakuma 2026 using a functional model. Control will be provided by the “SMC” (“Servo MoldControl”) system introduced in 2025. Sales Manager Richard Gane will also present the operating principle of the SLU and other servo-electric linear actuators in the Fakuma Forum on October 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. In addition to the linear unscrewing unit, Servomold will showcase a range of standardized servo-electric system components for injection molds. These include single- to four-fold unscrewing units, worm-drive systems for thread demolding, ready-to-use unscrewing mold halves, servo drive units, index plate drives, threaded core sets and rotating threaded-core cooling systems.
