Mocom launches PA12-bonding TPV for two-component applications

The material is intended for hard-soft component designs that require reliable adhesion, processability and long-term durability. Mocom says the TPV can be injection-molded directly onto PA12 and does not require the special mold coatings sometimes used in TPU applications to aid demolding. Target markets include automotive, electrical and electronics, and sports and leisure. Potential applications include seals, hose connectors, quick-connect systems, electrical connectors, housings, switches and bicycle components. Shore A 70 grade "Alfater XL A70I 4PA1210" has a Shore A hardness of 70. Mocom lists hydrolysis resistance, low moisture absorption, low compression set and resistance to heat aging among its key properties. Unlike silicone-based solutions, the TPV does not require additional vulcanization or post-treatment steps. As a thermoplastic elastomer, the material may also support component concepts designed with end-of-life material recovery in mind. Actual recyclability will depend on the component design, material combination and available recycling routes. Adhesion tested on reinforced PA12 Mocom reports high peel forces in adhesion tests on unreinforced, glass-fiber-reinforced and carbon-fiber-reinforced PA12.
