OPmobility to Acquire Hyundai Mobis Lighting Business

French automotive supplier OPmobility has agreed to acquire the lighting business of Hyundai Mobis, Seoul, South Korea. The transaction covers 100% of the business and values the operations at KRW 600 billion, equivalent to around EUR 390 million based on the exchange rate of September 29, 2026.

The business generated sales of KRW 2.5 trillion, or approximately EUR 1.6 billion, in 2025 and recorded a positive operating margin. It comprises five production sites in South Korea, China, Mexico and the Czech Republic.

Stronger Global Footprint in Vehicle Lighting
The acquisition will significantly expand OPmobility’s vehicle lighting activities and broaden its manufacturing footprint in Asia, North America and Europe. According to the company, the deal will strengthen the scale, technology portfolio, customer base and international production network of its existing lighting business.

The transaction also supports OPmobility’s strategy of combining exterior body systems and lighting solutions in a more integrated offering. At the same time, the company aims to diversify its customer base geographically and strengthen its business relationship with Hyundai and Kia.

Closing Expected in H2 2027
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027, subject to customary antitrust and regulatory approvals.

OPmobility said the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on its deleveraging strategy on a pro forma basis.

The company is a major supplier of exterior and lighting systems to the automotive industry. Plastics are widely used in these applications for housings, covers, optical components and structural parts. However, the announced transaction is primarily a strategic expansion of OPmobility’s lighting business. No specific new polymer materials, plastics processing capacity or materials-related technology developments have been disclosed in connection with the deal.

OPmobility SE has its registered office in Lyon, France, and its administrative headquarters in Levallois-Perret. In 2025, the Group reported economic revenue of EUR 11.5 billion and employed around 38,100 people at 152 production sites and 40 research and development centers.
