Stamixco AG will use Fakuma 2026 to showcase its range of static mixers and melt coolers for plastics processing, with applications spanning injection moulding and a wide variety of extrusion processes. The company’s offering covers flat and blown film, profiles, rods, pipes, foamed sheet and coextrusion, with particular emphasis at the show on its patented "SMB-R" mixing geometry for extrusion lines. Installed immediately upstream of the die or forming section, the static mixing elements are designed to improve melt homogeneity by evening out temperature and viscosity differences and improving the distribution of additives. Each "SMB-R" element is around 0.5 diameters in length. A typical installation uses eight elements, with each one rotated by 90 degrees relative to the preceding element. Compact Mixing for High-Viscosity Melts According to Stamixco, the "SMB-R" design combines intensive mixing with a relatively short installation length and limited pressure loss. The mixing bars are interconnected and supported by an outer ring at their ends. This ring carries much of the mechanical load generated by high-viscosity polymer melts, allowing the mixing structure itself to remain comparatively slender and helping to keep pressure losses low. The elements are produced from high-strength, heat-treated stainless steel and are standardised and interchangeable. Their open design also leaves the surfaces readily accessible, making visual inspection possible after operations such as thermal cleaning. For applications where high mixing efficiency must be combined with particularly low pressure loss, Stamixco also offers versions with shallower mixing angles. These are aimed at processes where intensive homogenisation is required without introducing excessive additional shear or pressure. Improving Melt Consistency Stamixco says that improving melt homogeneity ahead of the die can help reduce fluctuations in temperature and viscosity, resulting in a more consistent melt flow and more stable processing conditions. The company also points to more uniform distribution of colourants and additives, while in foamed products the technology is intended to promote a more consistent cell size and cellular structure. Further potential benefits include lower colourant and additive consumption, fewer streaks in the extrudate, improved surface quality and mechanical performance, and reduced scrap. More consistent melt conditions may also support the use of higher recycled-content levels, provided the material formulation and processing window are suitable. In addition to the "SMB-R" range, Stamixco offers further static mixer designs for different mixing duties and pressure-loss requirements. A selection of mixer types is also available for trials and process testing. Fakuma 2026, Friedrichshafen, Germany 12–16 October 2026 Hall A1, Stand 1504 More information: www.stamixco.com |
