Fournier Polymers Appoints Barbara Gonzini to Lead Italian Operations

Barbara Gonzini has been appointed Managing Director Italy at Fournier Polymers, taking responsibility for the polymer distributor’s activities in the Italian market. In her new role, she reports directly to Christophe Cario, Managing Director of Fournier Polymers.

Fournier Polymers has been part of the Meraxis Group since 2023. The appointment is aimed at further strengthening the company’s position in Italy, one of Europe’s larger polymer markets. The country has a diverse customer base ranging from major plastics processors to a large number of small and medium-sized companies.

Extensive experience in polymer distribution and specialty materials
Gonzini brings more than 30 years of experience in the plastics industry. Most recently, she served as EMEA Product Manager Specialty Powders and Services at Basell Advanced Polymers Solutions Sales & Marketing in Milan. Before that, she worked as Regional Sales Manager for Specialty Powders, with responsibility for key accounts across Europe.

From 2014 to 2020, Gonzini held a number of senior sales positions at A. Schulman in Gorla Maggiore, Italy. Her responsibilities included leading sales and customer service teams for Italy and other markets across Southern Europe, Africa and Asia. Earlier positions included roles at Ico Polymers Italy and Verplast.

Broad portfolio for the Italian plastics industry
In Italy, Fournier Polymers supplies plastics processors in a range of industries, including packaging. Its portfolio covers polyolefins and styrenics, engineering polymers, additives, masterbatches and thermoplastic elastomers for applications such as extrusion and injection molding.

Fournier Polymers forms part of Meraxis’ international polymer distribution business. According to the company, Meraxis operates at around 30 locations worldwide and generates annual sales of more than EUR 1 billion. Its product range includes standard and engineering polymers, compounds, masterbatches, as well as recycled, bio-based and biodegradable materials.

The group also provides a range of services, including material analysis, component testing, supply chain services and digital solutions. Meraxis is part of the Rehau Group.

With Gonzini’s appointment, Fournier Polymers is strengthening its management structure in Italy, with a focus on serving customers of different sizes and expanding sales of both standard and engineering polymers.
