MOL CLEAN from Rieter-Automatik is a new method of preventing microbiological growth in process water for pelletizing lines, particularly for PET and PA production, which is both highly efficient and environmentally sound. It increases line availability and reduces operating costs. By improving not only the quality but also the constancy of process water, MOL CLEAN also helps to ensure uniformly high pellet quality. In contrast to conventional chemical and often toxic liquid biocide additives, the MOL CLEAN process uses a solid catalyst together with a safe, non-toxic treatment solution to eliminate biological films (algae) and germs in process water and to significantly reduce deposits of cutting residues. Process water blockages are thus avoided, for example in conduit tubes, spray jets and heat exchangers, eliminating the need for the extensive cleaning of parts and components which come into contact with process water. This saves time and greatly simplifies the maintenance of pelletizing lines. MOL CLEAN has been successfully tested in operation for many years and meets the strict requirements of the EU Biocide Directive, ensuring that it is not harmful to people, to materials or to the environment. There are no residues in the finished PET or PA pellets, as proven by tests. The process can - independent of the pelletizing system manufacturer - be retrofitted into existing process water systems as well as directly integrated into new pelletizing lines. This new process water management solution was introduced to representatives from leading companies within the plastics producing industry at a symposium in June. Participants had the opportunity to hear reports of actual user experiences as well as informative lectures by experts from the Merseburg University of Applied Sciences and MOL Katalysatortechnik GmbH. Rieter-Automatik (www.rieter-automatik.com, www.pelletizing.com) is the sole sales partner of MOL Katalysatortechnik GmbH for pelletizing applications.
