Hekuma is boosting competence in automation by its new high-speed robot HEKU 3 at the Fakuma 2008

During the Fakuma trade show Hekuma GmbH (www.hekuma.com) will be exhibiting their capability as a technology leader in the field of high-speed automation systems with their newest robot – the HEKU 3. The new robot, dynamically demonstrating its capabilities, will be on display in hall B3 stand 3109. Like its HEKU 2 predecessor, the new robot will combine part placement precision, mechanical slide stability, part fixturing flexibility, long term reliability and equipment safeties with high-speed transfers – the primary criteria for system productivity – at even higher levels than previously achieved by Hekuma’s high speed automation standards. All three servo motion parameters – acceleration, constant velocity and deceleration – have been substantially increased in the new HEKU 3 robot in order to significantly reduce part removal cycle times. Based upon initial injection molding applications, "mold open" time has been reduced approximately 20 percent with these higher transfer speeds, effectively increasing output of the injection molding machine through shorter cycle times. Hekuma will be presenting a number of innovative material handling solutions for a variety of automotive through packaging, injection molding applications at Fakuma to highlight the innovative improvements incorporated in the new HEKU 3 robot.

Improving upon the performance features and Hekuma automation standards built into the HEKU 2 robot required a system capable of repeatable accuracies to one hundredth of a millimeter (.0004”) for positioning and inserting parts into molds plus the mechanical and electrical stability and endurance to operate at these highly dynamic levels. End-of-arm-tooling weighing up to 150 kg (330 lb) can be accommodated with the new robot. The HEKU 3 provides average accelerations of more than 6 g and transfer speeds up to 7 m/s (23 fps) – independent of end-of-arm-tooling weights.

As a process automation partner, Hekuma supports plastics processors from concept development through engineering implementation to fully automated, turnkey production cells. Representative illustrations of Hekuma automation technologies will be shown at Fakuma that include solutions for high precision and security-relevant ABS and ESP automotive housing components, molded medical parts and components produced under cleanroom conditions, in-mold labeled (IML) packaging produced by both injection molding and thermoforming, as well as thermoformed blister packaging with integrated RFID transponders.

Hekuma is committed to continuously advancing high speed robotic technologies for automated molding processes. The new HEKU 3 robot represents our most recent example of this commitment. Previous examples, the benefits of which have lasted for over 20 years, include the development of fully automated injection molded, CD box packaging systems that reduced cycle times from 14 to 4.5 seconds cycle times by means of Hekuma automation technology.
