Vinyl Foundation: Michael Kundel new president

On 15 December 2009, the Vinyl Foundation board elected Michael Kundel (Photo) as its new President. Michael is CEO of RENOLIT AG, a major PVC converter active in the film and sheet markets. He succeeds Joachim Eckstein who, as planned, handed the seat over to another board member on a rotational basis. The other board members of the Vinyl Foundation are Henk Ten Hove (Wavin), Andreas Hartleif (Veka), David Clark (Tarkett) and Alexandre Dangis (EuPC).

The Vinyl Foundation is entrusted with the collection of funds from the European PVC converting and compounding industries to fulfill its voluntary commitment set in March 2000.

Commenting on his new role as President, Michael Kundel said that 2010 will be the first year of his term with a key role for converters to contribute to the success in reaching the objectives set out ten years ago. ‘Recycling an additional 200,000 tonnes of PVC waste was a major challenge and we hope to reach our target within 2010 even in this difficult economic situation’, he said. Moreover, Michael Kundel calls on all PVC converters to join the Vinyl Foundation so as to secure a sustainable PVC business for the future.

At the same time, the industry will be looking into the detailed framework of a new Vinyl 2020 Commitment. 2010 will therefore be a year of paramount importance for all companies active in the PVC markets, and Michael Kundel hopes that the Vinyl Foundation will continue to play its role in raising awareness in the industry to achieve the established objectives.

The Vinyl Foundation fees are based on sales volumes that the PVC producers have provided to KPMG, and the system is fully compliant with EU Competition regulations. The second Vinyl Foundation positive list has now been published and it is available on its website.
