TeraPlast: New stretch film plant opened

In November, the Romanian plastics processor TeraPlast Group opened a plant for the production of stretch films made of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE).

According to a press release, the new plant, located in the industrial park of Sărățel near Bistrița, has the capacity to produce up to 14,000 tonnes of stretch film annually. The release states that the plant can replace almost all imports of LLDPE stretch film to Romania.

TeraPlast has invested a total of around 18.5 million euros in the construction of the new production facility. The Romanian state supported the project with grants totalling 5.3 million euros. The plant will employ 39 people in the future.

TeraPlast CEO Dorel Goia explained: ‘We are setting a good example by focusing on growth, investing in Romanian production, bringing Romanian products to international markets and supporting local companies. We believe that it is also the responsibility of the private sector to create conditions that encourage young people to stay in Romania and even attract young people from abroad to study and live here. We contribute to the Romanian economy not only through taxes and duties, but also by creating jobs and developing market leaders.’

The TeraPlast Group comprises several companies in Romania, Moldova and Hungary and produces various plastic materials and components for the construction sector, including PVC, PE and PP pipes and profiles, as well as packaging materials and PVC granules. In November, the group also agreed to take over the Croatian company Optiplast. For the first nine months of the 2024 financial year, TeraPlast, which is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, reported EBITDA of RON 45 million (EUR 9 million) from revenues of RON 681 million (EUR 137 million).
