Emirates Biotech has announced a strategic partnership with the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain to jointly explore new applications for polylactic acid (PLA) and end-of-life solutions. This initiative aims to improve the sustainability and functional performance of PLA, a bio-based and biodegradable polymer. Students and faculty members from UAEU will be involved in the joint research projects. The university's state-of-the-art facilities will be used to explore innovative methods for optimising PLA performance and environmental benefits. The results will support the commercialisation of bioplastics tailored to the changing needs of the UAE and the wider Middle East region. Dr Aman Kulshrestha, Chief Technology Officer of Emirates Biotech, said: "This collaboration will be instrumental in positioning PLA as a credible and sustainable alternative to fossil-based plastics. We are proud to be working with UAEU to advance research that supports our vision of a circular economy." Emirates Biotech will market and manufacture PLA, a bio-based and biodegradable polymer used in a wide range of applications, including packaging, food service items, 3D printing and more. PLA offers additional end-of-life options, such as composting and anaerobic digestion, keeping valuable organic waste out of landfills and supporting circular economy practices. Founded in 1976, UAEU is a research-intensive university committed to solving national and global challenges through strong partnerships with industry. More information: emiratesbiotech.com |
