European Bioplastics (EUBP), the association representing the bioplastics industry in Europe, has officially moved its headquarters to Brussels. This move underscores the organisation's commitment to representing the interests of the industry, working with EU institutions, expanding its network and strengthening its presence in EU policy-making. Coinciding with the move, European Bioplastics announces the appointment of its new Secretary General, Lorenza Romanese. She has extensive leadership experience in sustainability and public affairs. She will lead the organisation into the next phase of its strategic development and further integration into the EU political landscape. ‘This move is a logical next step in our development,’ says Hasso von Pogrell, Managing Director of European Bioplastics e.V. ‘With our location in Brussels, we are at the heart of EU decision-making, enabling us to strengthen our lobbying efforts and deepen our cooperation with stakeholders along the entire value chain.’ The move builds on the successful establishment of the EUBP's Brussels office in June 2023 and is considered a strategic milestone that reflects the growing relevance of bioplastics for Europe's transition to a circular economy. Given the EU's increased efforts to achieve sustainable prosperity and competitiveness, European Bioplastics firmly believes that bio-based, biodegradable and compostable plastics are essential to achieving these goals. These innovative materials reduce dependence on fossil resources, drive sustainable product design and promote cross-sector innovation. With a stronger presence at the heart of EU policy-making, EUBP is well positioned to support these strategic goals and ensure that bioplastics are recognised as an important enabler of Europe's green and circular transition. The majority of EUBP's core activities and lobbying will now be carried out from Brussels. However, the Berlin office will remain open to support ongoing operations and ensure the continuity of important functions such as the annual European Bioplastics Conference, Seedling, research and innovation projects, and more. Secretary General Lorenza Romanese: "I am honoured to join European Bioplastics as Secretary General. I look forward to working closely with our members, stakeholders and EU institutions to strengthen the voice of bioplastics, drive ambitious policy measures and unlock the full potential of the sector for a sustainable future for Europe."
