Wacker: Price Increase for Selected Silicone Products

Chemical group Wacker will adjust its selling prices for numerous silicone products as of February 1, 2026. The price increases will primarily affect addition-curing silicone rubbers, silicone resins, silanes, and silicone-based release coating systems. The adjustments will amount to up to 25 percent and, in individual cases, may exceed this level. Existing customer contracts will be reviewed accordingly and adjusted where necessary.

The measure is driven by sharply rising raw material costs, particularly for platinum. At Wacker, the precious metal is used as a catalyst for the crosslinking of silicone release coatings as well as for addition-curing silicone products. According to the company, platinum prices on international commodity markets have more than doubled since the beginning of last year. Internal efficiency and cost-saving measures are no longer sufficient to offset this cost increase.

Customers from several industrial sectors will be affected by the price adjustments, including automotive, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, electrical engineering, energy transmission, as well as paper and release paper coatings. According to Wacker, the objective of the price increase is to pass on the higher production costs and thereby safeguard the economic basis for reliable supply capabilities, consistent product quality, and technical service.

The Silicones business division is one of the group’s core segments. Wacker is among the world’s largest manufacturers of silicone products and offers a portfolio of more than 2,800 specialty products. These are used in industries including automotive, construction, chemicals, medical technology, energy, and electronics. In the 2024 financial year, the Silicones division accounted for around half of the group’s total revenue.
