Rosti: Expanding Cleanroom Capacities in Wisconsin and Utah

Rosti North America is investing in the expansion of its cleanroom manufacturing by commissioning new ISO Class 8 cleanrooms at two US locations. The measures affect the plants in Germantown, Wisconsin, and Clearfield, Utah, and are aimed at supporting customers in the medical technology and life sciences sectors.

At the Germantown site, a cleanroom covering more than 3,000 square feet is currently under construction. The facility is designed for demanding medical and life science applications and will house, among other equipment, a 300-ton injection molding machine. This is complemented by integrated automation solutions for bulk and layered tray packaging, as well as a free-standing bridge crane to facilitate tool changes and increase production flexibility. To comply with cleanroom requirements, airlocks, pass-through areas, and separate changing rooms have been incorporated.

The implementation of the project requires extensive operational intervention. Within a tight timeframe, approximately 15 injection molding machines, including their associated material handling systems, are being relocated and reconfigured. The work has been primarily carried out by internal engineering and maintenance teams to minimize production disruptions while creating capacity for existing and future cleanroom cells. The planning and realization of the cleanroom were carried out in cooperation with Encompass Solutions, which acted as the construction and project partner. Operational readiness is scheduled for early April, with the start of production expected later that month.

In parallel, Rosti is preparing for the commissioning of another ISO 8 cleanroom at the Clearfield, Utah, plant. The facility, with a planned area of approximately 1,400 square feet, is being built within existing warehouse space and is designed for up to five smaller injection molding machines. The project serves the implementation of a new medical customer program and already includes options for future expansion.
