Xenia: New impact-modified polyamide family

(Image: Xenia).
Xenia Materials is expanding its material portfolio with "Xelamid," a new family of impact-modified polyamides based on PA11 and PA12. The official presentation will take place at JEC World 2026 in Paris (March 10-12).

With "Xelamid," the company is supplementing its existing range, which has focused on fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites, with elastomerized and unreinforced polyamide grades. The material series was developed to combine mechanical performance with low density. The goal is a balanced relationship between stiffness, impact strength, and energy absorption.

According to the company, the portfolio covers a wide range of performance levels. The formulations reportedly achieve up to 30 percent higher elongation at break or up to ten times higher impact strength compared to standard polyamides. Specific grades exhibit a flexural modulus of up to 600 MPa as well as a tensile modulus of up to 700 MPa and are designed for applications with increased requirements for structural stability.

In contrast to impact-modified materials based on short-chain polyamides such as PA6, "Xelamid" is based on long-chain polyamides. These are characterized by low moisture absorption, low density, and high impact strength, providing stable mechanical properties even at low temperatures.

The material family is particularly intended for applications in the fields of sports equipment, consumer goods, and industrial components. The modular portfolio allows for the selection of suitable grades specific to the application and process.

Xenia develops and produces formulated, reinforced high-performance thermoplastic composites for injection molding and 3D printing. The company offers, among other things, carbon and glass fiber-reinforced materials for various industrial fields of application.
