The Polykemi Group is expanding its international presence and establishing its eleventh company, Polykemi (Thailand) Co. Ltd. A local office has been set up in Thailand. At the same time, the group is examining the long-term requirements for a potential production facility for plastic compounds based on high-quality virgin materials and recycled raw materials. According to the company, the move forms part of a longer-term Asia strategy. Polykemi began analysing the Asian market around five years ago. In China, the group now operates two production sites and two sales offices. The Thai market will initially also be supplied from there, with materials set to come from the plant in Kunshan, China. Polykemi has already established operational structures in Thailand. The company is currently renting an office in Rayong. Two sales employees and one person responsible for finance and human resources have been hired there and have taken up their roles on site. Rayong is regarded by Polykemi as a strategically important location for providing more direct support to existing and potential customers in the region. The proximity to Japanese end customers and suppliers to the Japanese automotive industry is particularly relevant. The local presence is intended to improve technical and sales support on the ground. In the company’s view, a possible future production facility in Thailand would also strengthen its global supply capability. Polykemi points out that it is already present on three continents and can supply customers worldwide with comparable materials made from virgin or recycled plastics. A stronger presence in Thailand would also be significant for customers in the USA and Mexico whose supply chains include suppliers in Thailand. In addition to market and production-related issues, Polykemi emphasises the importance of establishing a sustainable corporate culture when building the new unit. The family-owned company also intends to focus on safe working conditions and social sustainability in Thailand. As an example, Polykemi cites its experience in China, where measures such as additional health insurance solutions for employees and their families have contributed to low staff turnover. Similar approaches are also to be examined for Thailand. With the new site in Rayong, Polykemi is strengthening its regional presence in Southeast Asia and laying the foundation for a possible further expansion of production in Asia.
