IMG Group establishes “Everbio Innovation Hub” for circular polymer technologies

IMG Group, the parent company of Evertis and Selenis, has established the Everbio Innovation Hub at its site in Portalegre, Portugal. The new industrial platform is being financed with €15 million from C2 Capital Partners and is intended to advance the development of recycled and bio-based polymer materials as well as related technologies.

The hub brings together the expertise of the group companies Evertis, Selenis, Renascis and Renewis in the fields of polymers, PET-based packaging films, specialty copolyesters, recycling and renewable energies. Its objective is to consolidate research and development activities and accelerate the transfer of new materials and processes from the laboratory to industrial application.

One focus is on solutions for demanding packaging applications in the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries. These include the “perPETuity” technology, a solvent-free delamination process for complex multilayer plastics. The process is designed to produce PET flakes with a purity level of more than 99.9 percent, thereby enabling closed-loop recycling for high-quality packaging.

With the Everbio Innovation Hub, IMG Group is also responding to increasing regulatory requirements in the EU, particularly with regard to the recyclability, recycled content and traceability of packaging. The hub’s facilities include in-house testing capacities as well as industrial-scale coextrusion.

IMG Group has been active in the field of polymer materials and packaging solutions since 1959. Evertis specializes in PET-based barrier films, while Selenis focuses on specialty polyester solutions. C2 Capital Partners is a Portuguese private equity firm with a focus that includes technology, innovation and sustainability.
