Sumitomo Chemical: Reorganization of Polyolefin, Automotive Materials, Licensing and Catalyst Activities

Sumitomo Chemical has announced an organizational restructuring within its Essential & Green Materials Sector. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2026, and primarily affect the company’s polyolefin, automotive materials, licensing, catalyst and resin-related development operations.

As part of the reorganization, the existing Polyolefins Division and Automotive Materials Division will be merged to form the new Essential Polymers Division. The Business Planning & Administration Department and the Sales Department will also be assigned to this new division.

In addition, Sumitomo Chemical is consolidating functions from several existing units into a newly established License & Green Solutions Division. This division will bring together licensing-related activities that have previously been managed by the Planning & Coordination Office of the Essential & Green Materials Sector. It will also incorporate catalyst-related businesses that were previously assigned to the Essential Materials Division, the Polyolefins Division and the MMA Division, among others.

Within the License & Green Solutions Division, the company will establish two departments. The Global License Department will be responsible for the management and coordination of business units as well as technical licensing activities. The Catalyst Solutions Department will oversee catalyst sales and related operations.

Furthermore, development product concepts that have previously been handled by the Resin-related Business Development Department will be transferred to Prime Polymers Co., Ltd. and to the Planning & Coordination Office of the Essential & Green Materials Sector. As a result of these transfers, the Resin-related Business Development Department will be dissolved.
