RCS Group: €75 million investment in new recycling facility in Werne – Recycling of HDPE, PS and PET

On August 28, 2026, the RCS Group officially broke ground on a new RCS Plastics GmbH facility in Werne. A facility for recycling various plastic fractions is being built on a 6.5-hectare expansion site on Capeller Strasse. According to the company, the investment amounts to around €75 million. Completion of the new facility is currently scheduled for between the end of 2027 and early 2028.

The new site, located north of RCS's existing headquarters, is to operate as a standalone facility with production, logistics, administration, maintenance and service areas. It is designed to process around 100,000 tonnes of plastic material per year. Materials to be processed will include HDPE caps and closures, polystyrene, PET trays and PET beverage bottles.

The aim is to produce recyclates for a range of applications. A particular focus will be on processing plastics into grades that are also suitable for use in food packaging.

Focus on food-grade HDPE recyclate
A significant part of the project involves the recycling of HDPE caps and closures. RCS plans to use these materials to produce recyclates suitable for food-contact applications. The required approval and verification procedures place stringent demands on recycling technology, quality assurance and documentation.

By expanding this area of its operations, the company aims to establish additional closed-loop recycling streams for plastic materials that have so far only been suitable for reuse in food packaging to a limited extent. In addition to HDPE, PS and PET material streams are also to be processed at the new facility and prepared for reuse.

Around 60 additional jobs planned
According to RCS, the new facility is expected to create around 60 additional jobs, including approximately five apprenticeship positions. The company will thus also expand its production and employment capacities at its Werne site.
