Polyblend is investing four million euros in the modernization of an existing production line at its Bad Sobernheim site. The compounder is using the project to expand its capacity for plastic compounds containing mechanically recycled raw materials. According to the company, the final investment decision has been made. The modernized plant is scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2027 and will have a production capacity of up to 15,000 tonnes of recycling compounds per year. Existing industrial infrastructure at the site will be utilized. With the expansion, Polyblend is responding in particular to the expected increase in demand for compounds containing recycled materials for the automotive industry. This is driven by planned European requirements for end-of-life vehicles, which are expected to include mandatory minimum shares of recycled plastics in new vehicles. However, the final form of the relevant EU regulations has yet to be determined. Polyblend is wholly owned by the TotalEnergies Group. Total initially acquired a 68 percent stake in the Bad Sobernheim compounder at the end of 2014 and purchased the remaining 32 percent in October 2020, making Polyblend a wholly owned subsidiary. The company produces plastic compounds in Bad Sobernheim and also operates as a toll compounder, among other activities. The investment forms part of TotalEnergies’ strategy to increase the use of recycled raw materials in its polymers business. More information: www.polyblend.de, www.totalenergies.com |
