1 A Autenrieth Kunststofftechnik GmbH & Co. KG has expanded its production site in Heroldstatt, Baden-Württemberg, with a new manufacturing hall. According to the company, the project represents an investment of around EUR 5.5 million and increases the site’s usable floor space from 4,200 to almost 7,000 square metres. A key focus of the new building is energy-efficient temperature control. Around 2,500 square metres of ground collector area are used to pre-cool incoming outside air. This enables the production hall, which houses 25 injection moulding machines, to be kept at the required temperature without conventional compressor-based refrigeration. Cooling and process water are supplied entirely from treated rainwater. The water is filtered without the use of chemical additives and is used both for cooling the machinery and as a thermal storage medium for heating and cooling. The site’s energy management system comprises more than 50 measuring points, a new transformer, a 180 kW energy storage system and voltage regulation. According to the company, a range of measures implemented over the past five to six years has reduced electricity consumption by up to 300,000 kWh. Production runs on a three-shift basis across 25 injection moulding machines, around 60% of which are fully electric. The expansion also includes automated warehousing technology, additional assembly capacity and increased resources for mould maintenance and modification. Founded in 1977, 1 A Autenrieth Kunststofftechnik GmbH & Co. KG employs 54 people and is targeting sales of around EUR 10.5 million in the current year.
