B-Plast 2000 Expands Recycling and Energy Capacity in EUR 17 Million Project

B-Plast 2000 Kunststoffverarbeitungs-GmbH is investing EUR 17 million to expand and modernise its site in Aurich, Germany. The project will include a new production hall, additional production and storage capacity, further upgrades and diversification of manufacturing operations, and an expanded energy infrastructure. The main elements of the project are scheduled to come on stream in 2027.

As part of the investment programme, the company has received a funding approval notice from NBank, presented by Lower Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Grant Hendrik Tonne. Planning for the overall project has been under way since 2022 and has included the expansion of the industrial estate, land-use planning and the necessary approval procedures.

Significant expansion of the Aurich site
Once the project is completed, the company’s site is expected to more than double in size, from 81,000 square metres to 188,000 square metres. The additional space will provide B-Plast 2000 with greater capacity for production, storage and further technical infrastructure.

A major focus of the investment is the expansion and modernisation of production capacity. The company aims to increase its processing capabilities while broadening the scope of its manufacturing operations.

B-Plast 2000 specialises in plastics recycling and the trading of plastic raw materials. The company processes industrial plastic waste into secondary raw materials for reuse in industrial applications.

Wind power, photovoltaics and battery storage
The investment programme also includes a 4.26 MW “E-115 EP3 E4” wind turbine from Aurich-based manufacturer Enercon. The turbine is to be integrated with the photovoltaic systems already installed at the site, which have a combined capacity of 2.77 MW, as well as battery storage and an intelligent energy management system.

The aim is to maximise the use of locally generated wind and solar power within the company’s own production operations. Battery storage will help balance generation and consumption over time, while the energy management system will coordinate electricity production, storage and operational demand.

The energy concept also includes the electrification of the company’s commercial vehicle fleet and is intended to create the technical basis for the future electrification of additional transport operations. B-Plast 2000 is also planning a heating network that will allow waste heat from production processes to be reused on site.

Commissioning scheduled for 2027
Following completion of the remaining planning and approval stages, the various project components are due to be implemented or commissioned in 2027.

For the company’s energy-intensive recycling operations, the combination of on-site renewable power generation, battery storage and intelligent energy management is expected to improve the predictability of energy supply while reducing dependence on externally sourced electricity.

B-Plast 2000 has been active in plastics recycling and trading for more than 28 years. According to the company, it employs around 120 skilled workers at its Aurich site and offers a portfolio of more than 650 products. It maintains business relationships in 45 countries across four continents.

Its recycled plastics are used in a wide range of sectors, including automotive, packaging, construction, textiles, electrical and electronics. They are also used as raw materials for compounds and in injection moulding and extrusion applications.
