Covestro: 60 Years of Distribution Partnership with Albis for Polycarbonate and TPU

The distribution partnership between Covestro and Albis dates back to 1966, when the distribution of Bayer polymer products began in Germany. At Fakuma 2026 in Friedrichshafen, the two companies are highlighting the 60th anniversary of their collaboration.

Material Portfolio and Technical Cooperation
Today, the partnership covers Covestro's polycarbonates (PC), polycarbonate blends and thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU). In addition to polymer distribution, the cooperation encompasses technical application support, joint application development, technical troubleshooting and licensing activities. Covestro contributes its expertise in polymer materials and product development, while Albis provides access to plastics processors through its distribution network and technical services.

International Market Coverage
Originally focused on Germany, the distribution partnership has expanded to other European markets as well as Turkey, the Maghreb region, Brazil, Israel and India. In recent years, Albis has strengthened its presence particularly in Brazil, Israel, India and North Africa. This international distribution network is intended to support local customer service and the availability of Covestro's polymer materials.

Future Application Focus
Both companies intend to expand their cooperation, particularly in applications for e-mobility and healthcare. Additional areas of focus include more resource-efficient packaging solutions and polymer materials incorporating recycled or renewable feedstocks. The growing requirements for plastics circularity are also a key consideration.

Hamburg-based Albis Distribution GmbH & Co. KG distributes commodity polymers, engineering plastics and thermoplastic elastomers (TPE). According to the company, it operates at 26 locations and employs more than 500 people.

Leverkusen-based Covestro AG generated sales of EUR 12.9 billion in 2025. At year-end 2025, the group operated 46 production sites worldwide and employed approximately 17,600 people, measured in full-time equivalents (FTEs).
