Speciality chemicals manufacturer Nouryon presented its new organic peroxide, "Perkadox PM-60ST-GR", at Fakuma 2026. The product is designed to enable targeted adjustments to the flow properties and improve the mechanical properties of recycled plastics. The focus is particularly on recycled polypropylene (PP), for which the product is expected to open up additional applications in thermoforming, foaming and blow moulding.Post-consumer recyclates often exhibit varying material properties due to differences in their source materials and processing histories. Even polypropylene recycled from a single polymer stream can show differences in molecular structure and melt flow index (MFI), making further processing more difficult. Material properties may also deteriorate as a result of ageing and repeated thermal exposure. Nouryon uses organic peroxides to selectively modify the polymer structure. These are added during compounding as part of the recycling process. The new Perkadox PM-60ST-GR is designed to make it possible to selectively reduce the melt flow index of recycled PP while simultaneously improving its mechanical properties. According to the manufacturer, the development goes beyond previously available solutions for adjusting flow properties. A lower melt flow index can be particularly advantageous in processing methods that require higher melt viscosity or melt strength. Nouryon therefore sees additional potential applications for mechanically recycled PP, including thermoforming, foaming and blow moulding. The aim is to expand the use of recyclates into higher-value applications and better tailor their processing characteristics to specific requirements. The new product was presented together with distribution partner Safic-Alcan at Fakuma 2026. The two companies recently expanded their long-standing cooperation to include recycling solutions in more than 40 European markets. In addition to products from the "Perkadox" range, the partnership also covers organic peroxides from the "Trigonox" product family.
