Leistritz Extrusionstechnik GmbH will present "WaveTec", a new spline profile for the shaft-hub connection in twin-screw extruders, at Fakuma 2026. According to the company, the profile transmits a specific torque of up to 18 Nm/cm³ without requiring additional shaft preloading. The wave-shaped profile is designed to improve the mechanical load capacity and fatigue strength of the connection between the screw shaft and screw elements. This connection can become a performance-limiting factor at higher throughput rates. The geometry was developed in cooperation with Clausthal University of Technology. A patent application has been filed. According to Leistritz, "WaveTec" is compatible with existing extruders in the "ZSE-Maxx" series and can be retrofitted. In applications where the shaft-hub connection has previously limited throughput, the profile is expected to enable higher production rates. Depending on the application, the company considers an increase in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of up to 15 percent possible. However, the actual achievable performance depends on the process and drive configuration.
