Lanxess Launches Reactive Flame Retardant for PU/PIR Insulation
|
Lanxess has expanded its portfolio for PU/PIR insulation applications with the launch of its new “Purventis” platform. The first product in the range, “Purventis Core”, is a reactive, halogen-free phosphorus-based flame retardant designed for rigid polyurethane (PU) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) foams. The product is based on technology previously marketed under the name “Levagard 2100”. Unlike conventional additive flame retardants, “Purventis Core” is chemically incorporated into the polyurethane matrix. According to Lanxess, the product is low-viscosity, non-aromatic, and free from TPP and phenol. Advert Lanxess says testing showed no additional VOC emissions associated with the product. The company also reports strong flame-retardant performance compared with TCPP and TEP, along with improved mechanical properties of the foam. No specific test data were disclosed.
