DuPont Fluoroproducts (www.dupont.com) today announced plans to significantly expand its capacity to produce DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) film by 2007, in order to meet strong and growing market demand in photovoltaic, aerospace, construction, graphics and other market segments. Critical to photovoltaic module performance, DuPont™ Tedlar® PVF film is used as a long-lasting protective packaging material that provides weatherability, mechanical strength and reliable long life to solar cell components. DuPont Fluoroproducts expects market growth to exceed 30 percent each of the next few years, due to a surge in photovoltaic module production and installations around the globe. The business has already significantly increased and optimized its capacity over the last year at its Louisville, Ky., and Buffalo, N.Y. Plans are underway for at least one new U.S. manufacturing line, and additional manufacturing operations are being considered overseas. “DuPont ™ Tedlar® PVF has played a leading role in the development of the photovoltaic industry since its inception,” said Hilde Roekens, global segment leader -- DuPont Fluoroproducts. “We will continue to support the growth of the market by adding capacity for Tedlar®, and will continue to lead by putting our science and technology expertise to work to improve the lifecycle of photovoltaic modules and reduce the cost per watt of photovoltaic electricity.” DuPont is a leading global supplier of films, resins for encapsulants, encapsulant films and conductive inks for photovoltaics.
