Specialty chemicals company LANXESS AG (www.lanxess.com) is to raise its prices effective October 1, 2008 as a result of the increased cost of transport, energy and raw materials. The Semi-Crystalline Products business unit is adjusting its prices for engineering plastics in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The price increase will be at least EUR 0.35 per kg for Durethan A (PA 66) and Durethan B (PA 6), and at least EUR 0.17 per kg for Pocan (PBT). LANXESS reserves the right to introduce further price rises for specialty grades and colors. The high-performance plastics Durethan and Pocan are used in numerous applications in the automotive, electrical/electronics and construction industries. The Rubber Chemicals business unit is also increasing its prices worldwide. The price increase for rubber chemicals per metric ton will comprise between USD 150 and 1,300 for vulcanization accelerators (Vulkacit), between USD 100 and 900 for antioxidants (Vulkanox), and between USD 100 and 2,500 for specialty chemicals such as Vulcuren, Vulkalent G, Cohedur, Silica Additive, Vulkanol and colloidal sulfur, the exact increase depending on the product and the region. LANXESS’s rubber chemicals are mainly used in the automotive industry for the manufacture of tires, hoses and profiles, and in the production of drive elements and other technical rubber goods. |
