The members of the sector group drums and canisters in the IK Industrieverband Kunststoffverpackungeen e.V. (Industrial Association of Plastics Packaging Manufacturers, www.kunststoffverpackungen.de) find themselves under enormous cost pressure due to risen prices of energy and freight as well as of plastics raw materials. A recent survey of the manufacturers of blowmoulded containers showed that within one year the energy costs have increased by more than 10 percent. The branch survey reveals that the expenditure to meet this increase amounts to around five percent of the total costs. Rocketing freight costs have caused similar expenses: proportional costs are amounting to about 7,5 percent. Since April 2005 the freight costs have increased by eight percent. The members of the IK sector group drums and canisters are underlining that these cost increases – in contrary to the risen prices of plastics raw materials - have not attracted enough attention so far. In the course of the past two years the price of HD polyethylene used for the production of drums and canisters increased by around 50 percent. The annual production value of plastics containers manufactured in Germany amounts to around 1,1 billion Euros. |
